In her former career as a Nurse, Emma worked at the prestigious King Khaled Eye Specialist hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. As a Staff Nurse on a 37 bed mixed medical/surgical unit specialising in Retina and Anterior Segment and later as Charge Nurse on a 52 bed in-patient unit specialising in Glaucoma, serving patients from throughout the Middle East, Emma managed a large multi-national team of nurses alongside an elite team of resident and visiting Ophthalmologists and leading Specialists from around the world. Emma qualified as and E.N.B. 346 Ophthalmic Specialist Nurse at Moorfields Eye Hospital, London undertaking clinical placements in a broad range of specialist units and outreach centres and ultimately in the busy Accident & Emergency department. Emma has since been able to combine her passion for eye health by working in executive search with several ophthalmic focussed clients on retained searches including the following: Clinical Scientist and Glaucoma Specialist, Switzerland; Project Leader and Medical Director, Paris; and Managing Director, UK (Ophthalmic medical devices)

Ophthalmology Search Assignments at Coulter Partners

Our strong track record in the field of A & P Ophthalmology is illustrated by the following successful search assignments, involving Charlotte Bennett, Anne-Monika Duerk and Emma Hiom, among others:

Ophthalmology Lead, responsible for R&D pipeline, within an RNA therapeutics Nasdaq listed company.  Headquartered in Europe and with a presence in Cambridge, MA and San Francisco.

Chairman of the Board for a VC backed Biotech company, leveraging its proprietary technology to develop non-viral gene therapies for ocular diseases.

Global Medical Director (current search) for a big Biopharma company: to identify the medical leader for an orphan ophthalmology indication, within one of the world’s largest pharmaceutical brands.

General Manager, US for the Ophthalmology Franchise of Specialty Pharma co.

HR Director, requiring candidates with an international profile for a speciality ophthalmic company based in France, Europe and the US; a rapidly expanding international commercial organisation with its own R&D pipeline.  Followed up with search for Head of Development, Europe, targeting ophthalmology qualified professionals with sound Development and Regulatory expertise.

CMO for a privately owned European ophthalmology Biotech company, with a clinical stage asset (recombinant neuro-growth factor) for neurotropic keratitis, retinitis pigmentosa and glaucoma.  Search involved targeting ophthalmology qualified/experienced clinical development specialists, based both in Europe and in the US.  We had also placed their Corporate Regulatory Affairs Director.

US Subsidiary President based on the East Coast, for a European company developing Encapsulated Cell Technology (ECT) products for the treatment if retinal diseases.  Their mission is to become a leading player in drug delivery for the back of the eye.  The company successfully became a US headquartered company and our placed candidate became the CEO.

CEO for a UK headquartered company focussed on R&D and commercialisation of adaptive ophthalmic lenses.
