Anti-Microbial Resistance: A Global Threat
Anti-microbial Resistance (AMR) has become one of the key global concerns of the medical community, governments and consumers. Our work in the Anti-infective space has been varied and exciting, and we have consequently developed significant expertise in this area.
We have seen an upsurge in interest and hiring needs; small innovative biotechs developing proprietary compounds against multi drug resistant Gram-negative and Gram positive strains; global pharma companies re-entering a field that has been relatively neglected for decades; speciality pharma companies who have been tackling this issue for many years; consumer products companies that are seeing that major value can be built on the back of a huge rise in the consumer wanting to minimize and handle their own risk. Our clients reflect these trends.
New Horizons in non-traditional Areas
Setting the scene
Our client is a world leading manufacturer of hygiene wipes and pioneer in many news areas of product application, with a strong heritage of innovation and commitment to the highest standards of quality. As the healthcare space has become a major focus for their R&D efforts, they have developed into a global leader in infection prevention products and solutions.
New directions needed new skills
The company needed to add to its leadership team in several areas including product research and development, regulatory affairs, and quality. The company’s leadership team came to Shawn asking for our particular expertise as the target community were likely to be in Pharma companies and needed to have their proposition and opportunity represented with sophistication. They also needed a search partner with exceptional networks of relevance and sophisticated ability to evaluate cultural fit.
The Coulter Partners team was able to leverage expert networks in the pharmaceutical, biotech and med devices sectors to bring anti-infective expertise of relevance to the company’s R&D efforts, to their manufacturing activities and Regulatory and Quality functions.
Skilled Leadership to enable growth
Setting the scene
Our client is a global specialty pharma company focused on providing important anti-infective treatments against serious and often life threatening infections. With a strong heritage of manufacturing APIs including world renowned antibiotics, they have more recently become a key player in finished dosage forms, whose goal is to bring through a pipeline of new products against AMR through investment and innovation.
The company had leadership needs in R&D, corporate development, strategy and commercial. Again a “new” story needed to be explained and represented with care. The R&D role, for example was at first sight not going to necessarily attract a highly innovative scientist without the search partner being able to demonstrate the medium and long term strategy and opportunity to take the company in a high value, exciting direction. The CEO and Head of HR came to us because their PE investors held us in high regard and we demonstrated deep expertise and networks in the anti-infective sector.
The Coulter Partners team conducted a thorough evaluation of the sector, and was able to leverage expert networks in the bio-pharmaceutical, and generics sectors to bring anti-infective expertise of relevance to the company’s R&D lead role, and excellent M&A and strategic deal making ability for the corporate development position, as well as a strong major pharma profile for the commercial/strategy role. All the searches needed candidates who could relocate for the role.
R&D Leadership sought
Setting the scene
This is a highly innovative antibiotic discovery and development biotech, targeting multi drug resistant Gram-negative and Gram-positive strains. The company is developing novel drug candidates as proprietary compounds and is led by world class scientists. The company had originated in Australia and was being relocated to the UK.
The Company needed to bring on Board a new CSO to lead R&D activities as the company moved forward to industrialise its potential and progress into the clinic. The company’s leadership team came to Kay asking for our particular expertise in CSO/R&D leadership search, and our understanding of the Anti-infectives landscape, so that their search partner could compete for a rare and highly sought after talent group. Again of key importance was that their search partner could bring exceptional networks of relevance and find candidates who could fit their special culture.
The Coulter Partners team was able to leverage expert networks in the pharmaceutical and biotech sectors, specifically focusing on expert drug hunters, to find someone who identified with the company’s mission and related well to the founders.
